The Capt. Roy Westgate Cup

For Inspiration to Others

Donated to the SCSA by Andy Westgate in memory of his father
Roy Walter Frederick Charles Westgate. 1924-2003.

Airman Roy Westgate at Falcon Field Arizona, sometime in the early 40s
going solo in a PT-17 Boeing Stearman

"Flying was his life, in a career that took him around the globe many times he spent over 22,000 hrs in the air with various airlines. He also loved working with wood and was a talented artist and model maker……he was my inspiration, he would always say "if it’s worth doing it’s worth doing properly". When he came to visit he would always come to the shows with me and up to the slopes…. he was a quiet man, but was happy just to watch others fly their models".

At the risk of foisting my father’s memory on the club, John Fairbairn has very kindly made a cup embellished with a set of his wings. I would like this to stay in the club, and to be presented to who ever the members decide most fitting. It could be for flying skills, Web site design, compiling the newsletter or helping others to fly.
